Opening Times

Visit

  • Spike Island is located off the coast of Cobh in beautiful Cork Harbour.
  • Heritage town Cobh is just 24 minutes by train or 25 minutes by car from Cork city centre.  
  • See http://www.irishrail.ie/travel-information/cobh for Train info and https://www.cobhconnect.ie/cobh-connect-timetable/ for Bus info from Cork city.
  • Free Parking is recommended at Cobh Heritage Center and Cobh Cathderal car parks. 
  • Allow at least 20 minutes to park and walk to the ferry.  The ferry must leave on time and cannot wait, no refunds for late arrivals. 
  • Ferries depart from Kennedy pier Cobh, which is right in the town centre next to Titanic Cobh.
  • Ferry journey is just 10 - 20 minutes each way, with seats for each passenger.
  • Tickets can be purchased from our kiosk on the pier, but ONLINE BOOKING HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
  • Cafe and toilet facilities located on site.  Allow up to 3.5 hours per visit.

FEB - 17th / 24th / MARCH 03RD / 10TH:  Open Saturday’s only, boats 12pm and 2pm.

MARCH 17TH / 18TH – APRIL 29TH:  Open Saturday and Sunday, boats 12 and 2pm.

MARCH 27th Tuesday/ 29th Wednesday:  Tues / Thur Mid-term sailings, 12 and 2pm.

APRIL 02ND / 03rd / 05th:  Mon / Tues / Thur.   12pm and 2pm Mid week. (Kids on holidays this week.)

APRIL 30th onward – Open 7 days a week, 12pm and 2pm.

JUNE 02ND TO END OF AUGUST AUGUST:  Open 7 days.  10.15am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm.  Additional dependent on second ferry, tide, demand.

SEPTEMBER 03RD to 30th:  Open 7 days.  Boats 12pm and 2pm.

OCTOBER 01ST to 20th:  Weekends only, Saturday 12pm and 2pm.

OCTOBER 29TH to 04th NOV – Open 7 days.  Boats 12 and 2pm.

NOVEMBER 05TH to FEB 15TH 2019 – Open to pre-booked groups of 15 or more only.

Train

You can travel by from Kent Station in Cork City.

  • Trains depart Kent Station, Cork City every hour, on the hour.
  • Trains return from Cobh train Station every hour on the half hour.
  • The train stops at Little island, Glounthaune, Fota and then Cobh.
  • To walk to Spike Island ticket, off, walk down Westbourne Place with the water on your right, follow the footpath passing Cobh Park and next Titanic Cobh. Spike Island kiosk and ferry departure on your right, Kennedy pier.

From Cork City Centre/West:
From McCurtain Street take N8 East, signposted Dublin N25.
3.2 ml – At the roundabout take second exit, straight ahead on N8, signposted Dublin.
0.3 ml - Keep right/stay on N25 signposted Rosslare, Waterford.
4.6 ml – Take exit 3 onto R624, signposted Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto R624, Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the first exit, left, R624 for Cobh.
1.9 ml – Cross bridge, take right.
4.0 ml – Follow road for Cobh, arrive town centre.

From North:
Follow M8 signposted Cork.
At tunnel roundabout take first left signposted N25 Waterord.
4.6 ml – Take exit 3 onto R624, signposted Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto R624, Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the first exit, left, R624 for Cobh.
1.9 ml – Cross bridge, follow road which veers right.
4.0 ml – Follow road for Cobh, arrive town centre.

From Waterford/East:
Join N25 Westbound signposted Cork.
Take exit 3 onto R624, signposted Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto R624, Cobh.
0.3 ml – At the roundabout take the first exit, left, R624 for Cobh.
1.9 ml – Cross bridge, follow the road which turns right.
4.0 ml – Follow road for Cobh, arrive town centre.

Parking

  • Free Parking is recommended at the car park on the North side of Cobh Cathedral, which is a 10 minute walk to Kennedy Pier, Cobh, next to Titanic Cobh.

  • Free parking is also available further out at the Five Foot Way Car park, which is 1 mile from Cobh centre.

  • Parking in Cobh Centre is currently limited to 3 hours, there are plans to offer an extended parking ticket for Spike Island visitors in 2017.
  • Please note - parking is NOT allowed on Kennedy Pier.

Ferry

  • The ferry to Spike Island departs from Kennedy Pier, Cobh, just past Titanic Cobh.
  • Tickets can be bought at the kiosk but advance booking is highly recommended as boats do sell out. Advance tickets available at Digitickets
  • Pre-booking online is highly recommended during peak season/weekends as boat places are strictly limited. Call (085) 851 8818.

Groups of 15 or more may book a ferry any time of the year by going to DigiTickets or calling (085) 851 8818.
